Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council

About the FAR Council

In accordance with the OFPP Act (41 U.S.C. chapter 13), the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council (FAR Council) assists in the direction and coordination of Government-wide procurement policy and Government-wide procurement regulatory activities in the Federal Government.

The FAR Council membership consists of the Administrator for Federal Procurement Policy, the Administrator of General Services, the Secretary of Defense, and the Administrator of National Aeronautics and Space. The FAR  Council meets quarterly or as needed, during the fiscal year, to discuss complex and controversial acquisition issues and to resolve any disagreements between FAR members on implementation of FAR changes.

The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) is the single Government-wide procurement regulation. The FAR is prepared, issued, and maintained, and the Federal Acquisition Regulations System (FAR System) is prescribed jointly by the Secretary of Defense, the Administrator of General Services, and the Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, under their respective statutory authorities.
